The final chapter of one of Australia’s most bizarre religious cults has been written following the death of the founder and matriarch of ‘The Family’, Anne Hamilton-Byrne.
Survivors of the infamous cult who were abused as children are preparing for a legal battle for compensation, following the death of the 98-year-old.
From the early 1960s, Hamilton-Byrne collected a group of children, and according to records, believed she had a divine calling to raise a ‘master race’ family.
Hamilton-Byrne died in palliative care at a Melbourne nursing home on Thursday, after suffering from dementia for over a decade.
Her condition rendered her unfit to face further legal action by survivors.
