You're a twerp: Josh Thomas and Wyatt Roy in Twitter spat

COMEDIAN Josh Thomas and Liberal MP Wyatt Roy might look similar but their opinions certainly differ.

The pair had a public spat overnight on Twitter which resulted in child like name calling.

The Member for Longman initially provided the fuel posting a tweet which read: "1100 deaths at sea, 1400 children in detention. Our polices have saved lives- a fact lost on Labor members".

It was teamed with a video of Roy speak in Parliament on the "hypocrisy of the Left".

The Tweet obviously fired-up Thomas who called the MP a 'twerp.'

The Please Like Me then fired a few more hits accusing the government of being cruel and hiding the truth while linking to an article with allegations of 33 cases of sexual abuse involving children in detention centres in Australia.

"Remember when you guys cut foreign aid? Remember when you spend $1b a year on detention centres? You aren't nice guys/girl," He tweeted.

He then quizzed Roy on what would happen to gay refugees settled in Papua New Guinea, where homosexuality is illegal.

The attack clearly wasn't appreciated by Roy who later fired back, as any politician would, by stating there were at least 515 fewer children in detention compared to when the government took office.

But he wasn't short of a few strong bites either:

"Really? Is this where you are going with this conversation. No wonder you have to ask ppl to like you," he said.
"Is this part of your routine? I wouldn't open with that in any company."

Thomas was quick to say he wasn't joking about the issue and then attempted to bring Immigration Minister Scott Morrison into the discussion.

Thomas later tweeted concerns he would be a target of homophobic abuse due to media coverage of the spat.

It's not the first time the comedian has fired up over a politician. Earlier this month he took MP Bob Katter to task over comments on homosexuality.
