OPINION: Youngsters were the real stars of the stadium

DURING my time at both the Canberra Raiders and NZ Breakers NBL side I often queried just how much both organisations spent on their cheer leaders.

The Raiders spent more than $50,000 on their glamour team, while the Breakers weren't far behind them.

My comment was that instead of having an expensive group of young woman bouncing around the place we'd be better off doing something a little different.

I didn't get far with this idea because everyone insisted that you needed to have glamour centre-court for all your home games.

On Sunday I dropped in to the Ipswich basketball stadium to watch the Force take on Gladstone.

While it wasn't to be Ipswich's day I still thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon.

Much of that was to do with the young gymnasts from the Ipswich based Jazzy Gymnast group.

At every break the 21 youngsters raced onto the court performing routines that they had obviously spent hours practising.

They thoroughly enjoyed themselves and their energy lifted the small crowd that turned up.

The girl's parents should rightly feel proud of their young stars.
