Young people secure their futures
BEST FRIENDS Jacinta Watson and Cherise Ellis have both secured their futures, thanks to the Get Set for Work program offered through the Bremer Institute of TAFE.
The Get Set for Work program is offered to help young people comply with Queensland education legislation. Both teenagers from Laidley enlisted in the course to further their careers.
Under the program, participants complete personal development and team-building activities, and improve their literacy and numeracy skills while learning job preparation, resume writing and interview skills.
As part of the program, Jacinta and Cherise attended the Bremer Institute weekly to complete lessons in hospitality, office administration skills, event management and motivations employment training.
Jacinta said she was initially unsure what field of work she wanted to pursue, but learning about hair and beauty through the program piqued her interest in the industry.
“I've always had a few ideas about what I wanted to do as a career,” she said.
“But after participating in the personal grooming course through Get Set for Work, I realised hair and beauty was the career for me.”
She is now completing vocational placement with a local hairdresser.
Cherise also achieved great success through the program, being offered a casual hospitality position based on her attitude, customer service and strong work ethic.
