Young leaders meet at Somerset Regional Council forum

STUDENTS from the Somerset region's three high schools came together recently for the Somerset Regional Council's second Young Leaders Forum.

Students from Lowood, Kilcoy and Toogoolawah high schools heard guest speaker Nicole Gibson, a Queensland finalist for Young Australian of the Year, talk about her experiences.

She encouraged the students to think positively, embrace their differences, believe in themselves and follow their dreams.

Somerset Mayor Graeme Lehmann welcomed the students at the civic centre and officially launched the council's draft Youth Engagement Strategy and a youth magazine produced in workshops earlier this year.

Councillor Kirsten Moriarty also attended the second Young Leaders Forum and said supporting young people was one of her key priorities.
