Young driver killed when car collided with oncoming truck

A MAN was killed on Friday night at a notoriously crash-prone section of the Cunningham Hwy at Flinders View.

The man, who police said was aged in his twenties, died after his car collided with an oncoming truck about 10.40pm on Friday.

Police said he was the only person in the car and died at the scene of the crash.

The truck driver was not physically injured.

The long section of the Cunningham Hwy between Swanbank and Mutdapilly has been the site of numerous deadly crashes in the past several years.

At Flinders View in October 2015, a 42-year-old man died when his ute crossed the median strip and slammed into oncoming traffic. A 22-year-old man was seriously injured in the crash.

Only two months before, a 27-year-old driver died when his ute collided with an oncoming truck at the Mutdapilly section of the highway.

In June 2014 further along the highway at Redbank, a young woman was killed when she drove on the wrong side of the highway.

A man in his 70s also died at Mutdapilly in August 2013 when his vehicle drifted into the path of a semi-trailer.
