Yeppoon singer performs in NZ

YEPPOON'S Sarah Court was destined to be an opera singer from the minute she was born - literally.

"Apparently Vivaldi's The Four Seasons was playing in the delivery room so I guess I didn't have a choice," Sarah laughed.

Her career has taken her from New Zealand, where she grew up, to studying in Prague, but now she is happy to call the Capricorn Coast home.

"I moved here last year from New Zealand with my partner and we just love it," she said.

"But I travel back to New Zealand to do concerts.

"I probably do about five or six a year."

Two weeks ago Sarah sang at Auckland Town Hall as a soloist in a choral performance of Bach's St Matthew Passion.

"There was this one big song I did called Ebarme dich and when I'd finished there was just silence and then this huge sigh from the audience," she said.

"It was incredible because it meant we shared something - that's what music can do."

Sarah received a raving review in the New Zealand Herald which described her solo as the "absolute highlight of the evening".

After studying a Bachelor degree in music, completing her honours and also her Masters, Sarah has now started her Doctorate of Musical Arts through Griffith University in Brisbane.

Sarah will perform her first recital in Rockhampton on her first anniversary of moving to Yeppoon, June 5.
