Ab fab Adil wows X Factor audience

ADIL Memon has a voice - and abs - that will capture the attention of thousands of X Factor viewers when the show premieres on Monday.

The Ipswich 19-year-old certainly attracted the interest of Spice Girl Mel B.

Adil told The Queensland Times that Scary Spice actually asked him "if I had a six-pack", which led to him baring his chest to the audience.

Adil's hesitation to show off his abs on national television was met by screams of encouragement from the audience.

"It was a pretty funny moment. It was nerve-wracking getting up on stage," he said.

"I didn't want to do it at first but everyone was all for it."

Adil's face may be familiar to some readers because the teen previously appeared on Australia's Got Talent with his older sister Maimuna.

Four years on, Adil has decided to make his solo debut.

"I've been performing for maybe five or six years on guitar, but I only started experimenting with my voice a year ago," Adil said.

"A lot of the reason for me auditioning at the Gold Coast was to actually get an honest opinion on my singing.

"I'd performed in front of friends and family before but of course they can be a bit biased."

Adil, who attended Ipswich Grammar School, deferred his university study to audition for X Factor.

"I was studying nutrition and exercise and the opportunity to do this came up," he said.

"I was tossing up between studying for a degree that would give me financial stability and trying this, and I realised performing is what I've always wanted to do."

Adil said he had loved meeting the celebrity judges and his fellow contestants.

"It's funny, I grew up in England and when I was four and my little brother was three we were given this little mike and guitar, and we used to get up and sing Ronan Keating songs," Adil said.

"All the judges were people I really respect, so it was great to get their feedback."

Watch Adil's performance when X Factor premieres at 7.30pm.
