World group tennis after Stosur win
SAMANTHA Stosur was all smiles after helping Australia get back into the Fed Cup world group yesterday with victory against Germany in Stuttgart.
Stosur beat world No.11 Andrea Petkovic 6-4 6-1 to put the Aussies into an unassailable 3-0 win before the hosts struck back to win the final two dead rubbers for a 3-2 scoreline.
It was Stosur's second victory of the weekend after she also saw off Angelique Kerber 7-6 (7-1) 6-4 in the tie's opening game.
Stosur said she was happy with her victory over Petkovic.
"It was crucial that I could break Andrea and it was obvious that she was nervous when it came to the big points," she said.
"We've had a good week here and really enjoyed it."
After Stosur's win over Petkovic, Fed Cup debutant Olivia Rogowksa lost 6-3 6-3 to Kerber, while in the final doubles rubber, Petkovic combined with Georges to defeat Casey Dellacqua and Jarmila Gajdosova 6-3 6-4.
