Worker dies after falling 6m on to concrete at Cooroy

WORKPLACE Health and Safety Queensland are investigating how a roofer fell six metres to his death at a Cooroy construction site yesterday morning.

Co-workers rushed to help the 61-year-old man after he fell, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

He fell on to concrete at the new Wimmers and Cooroy Mountain Spring Water factory site.

Owner Peter Lavin said it was devastating.

"This is a sad event for everyone," he said.

The RACQ Careflight helicopter was called to the scene, preparing to take the man to hospital, but he died before anything could be done.

Northern Region inspector Mike Miley said Workplace Health and Safety Queensland was taking the lead role in investigations and providing information to police.

The factory worksite, which has been running for six months, will be closed for the next few days as a sign of respect.

The deceased man's name had not been released yesterday.
