Woman’s warning after break-up stabbing
A Perth woman who was stabbed by her ex-boyfriend after she ended their relationship has shared horrifying details of the "scary" attack.
Keana Ball was brutally stabbed on her driveway by Mark McLean, 32, when the 19-year-old called off their four-month relationship.
McLean was jailed for nine years after he pleaded guilty to a charge of "with intent unlawfully to kill, committed an act or omission likely to endanger human life" on Wednesday.
The horrific incident, which occurred on March 24 this year at her Balcatta home, was caught on camera and shows the couple walking down her driveway before McLean suddenly pulls a weapon out of his waistband and grabs her.
He reportedly told her: "If I can't have you, no-one can" before stabbing her in the chest and choking her, and throwing her to the ground before disappearing.
McLean was allegedly under the influence of drugs at the time of the attack.
Now 20-year-old Keana has spoken out about her ordeal, sharing images of her scar on Facebook and stating she "felt trapped and stuck" in the relationship.
"I just don't know why someone would want to kill me," she told 9 News. "Especially because I never did anything to him, anything at all. I was nothing but kind but it backfired."
At the time of the attack, Keana shared an emotionally charged message on Facebook, writing "domestic violence is a real thing".
"It doesn't matter if it is a push or a stab, I almost lost my life today, because I was trying to help someone," she said.
The WA woman, who is also a mum, described the moment she was knifed as "the most stressful and scariest thing in my life".
Keana explained the moment she was "brutally attacked" on the driveway when McLean "out of no where" pulled a knife from his pants and stabbed her in the chest "barely missing my heart and puncturing my lung".
"I am so thankful for my neighbours and the friends I have in my life if they didn't call (the) police and ambulance, I would be dead," she added.
She also shared a photo from the scene where police waited with her for ambos to arrive as a man clutches a towel to her wound. Her pink sweat pants are covered in blood, her face visibly bruised.
She also shared a short video from her hospital bed showing her in a blue gown in which she shows her large stab wound.
Sickening footage from the attack, which was shared by Channel 9 yesterday, stunned Australia.
Keana shared the segment on her Facebook account, writing: "This is it."
One woman is murdered by a current or former partner each week in Australia.
