Woman robbed in brazen daylight attack in CBD

TOOWOOMBA police are hunting a brazen daylight robber who targeted a woman in the CBD today.

A woman carrying a banking bag on Ruthven St this morning was run down by an offender who made off with the bag and was last seen running through the Neil St bus interchange.

Criminal Investigation Branch Detective Sergeant Paul McCusker said officers were reviewing CCTV which had tracked the man through the city.

"About 9.30am a female business person was in Ruthven St near the Cotton On store when a male person grabbed a banking bag she was carrying and ran down Ruthven St towards the Bank of Queensland," Det. Sgt McCusker said.

"The offender was then seen to run down Club Lane and was last seen running through the bus interchange."

Det. Sgt McCusker said police had tracked the man through CCTV cameras in the CBD.

He is described as being of stocky build, dark complexion and was wearing shorts, shirt and a cap.

"Police are seeking any information from any person who may have seen a male person running in this direction to come forward and assist police," Det. Sgt McCusker said.

"He may have been in the area prior to the offence and it may well be an opportunistic crime.

"(The offender) was last seen in the Neil St area interchange shortly after 9.30am.

"Police are reviewing CCTV footage and other lines of inquiries with a view of identifying the male person."

Det. Sgt McCusker said the woman was not injured in the incident.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Toowoomba CIB in 4631 6400.
