Woman dies in horrific head-on collision
A LOWOOD woman died on Wednesday after a head-on collision between two vehicles on Clarendon Rd just outside the town.
The 32-year-old woman, who died at the scene of the accident, was driving a Holden Calais sedan that collided with a 4WD ute driven by a male at 2.40pm.
The male was taken by CareFlight helicopter to Princess Alexandra Hospital with serious injuries to his chest and abdomen.
The accident occurred on the crest of a hill and it appears that one of the vehicles veered onto the wrong side of the two-lane bitumen road.
Police said speed was not thought to be a factor in the crash.
Clarendon Rd was closed for some time on Wednesday after the accident, with traffic being diverted down Reinbotts Rd
The Forensic Crash Unit from Ipswich was investigating the crash but the cause of the accident was not known on Wednesday night.
The section of rural road is not known for being dangerous although the accident took place not far from the junction with Patrick Estate Rd, which is regarded by locals as a hazard.
The accident was attended by Lowood police, scenes of crime officers, the Queensland Ambulance Service and Queensland Fire and Rescue.
