Woman's lucky escape as car crashes into tree

A 28-YEAR-OLD woman appeared lucky not to have been seriously injured after her car slammed into a tree on Tuesday.

The car the woman was driving ran into a tree beside Bischoffs Rd, Coominya about 12.15pm.

Initial reports indicated the woman was trapped in the car and may have been seriously injured.

The car appeared to have run off a downhill section of the bitumen road coated with gravel.

Emergency services rushed to the scene to find the front of the car badly damaged and the woman still inside but conscious and breathing.

After a short time, however, a police spokesman said the injuries the woman suffered weren't as bad as first feared.

The spokesman said the woman was taken by ambulance to Ipswich Hospital and was expected to be released on Wednesday afternoon.

The cause of the crash is being investigated.
