A WOMAN is in a coma after she was allegedly doused in an accelerant and set alight as she slept in her Brisbane home.

Police last night said a 27-year-old Wavell Heights man had been charged with attempted murder and entering with intent.

Detectives allege the man, who was known to the 28-year-old victim, walked through the open back door of a house in Aldea Circuit, Bracken Ridge, about 10.40am Tuesday.

He walked into the woman's bedroom, where she was sleeping, before pouring liquid on her and lighting it, police allege.

The woman was taken to Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital under critical care escort in a serious condition with burns to her arms.

It's believed she was this morning in a coma in intensive care.

Two flatmates of the woman were home at the time and were yesterday being interviewed by police. Reports suggest one of the flatmates said the woman's bed and carpet around the bed had been on fire.

The accused man was taken into custody at Chermside and will appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court today.
