Winners' big love for Small garden

LAIDLEY gardeners Shirley and Alan Small have won the Lockyer Valley Regional Council's garden competition small rural homestead category for the fourth time.

Mrs Small said she and her husband both enjoyed the time and effort put into creating a prize-winning garden.

"It's certainly not regarded as hard work," she said.

"We just love gardening and the little everyday jobs that are part of it. One of the joys is the colour coordination and the planning that goes with it.

"The unseasonable weather has upset things a bit this year and thrown the flowers into chaos. Because of the warmer weather, we've had to adjust the timing of the plants coming into bloom."

Their Pats Road garden was open to visitors throughout the popular annual Laidley Spring Festival.
