Window smashed to free baby trapped in car

BREAKING: Witnesses have rushed to help a woman who locked her young child in the car at a Toowoomba shopping centre.

The front window was smashed and the baby out of the car by the time RACQ roadside assist were on the scene in the Hooper Centre carpark about 11.15am.

It is believed the woman had placed her keys down in the car before the wind blew the door shut, locking her out of the vehicle with the baby inside.

A man who was in the carpark helped vacuum out the glass from the broken window and it is believed the baby was not in the car for long before the window was broken.

RACQ roadside assist worker Tim Adams said people unlocked their car but did not open their driver's side door, "invariably the car rearms and relocks".

He said the baby appeared to be unharmed.

Queensland Ambulance Service is still on the scene assessing the child.

Police were also on the scene.
