Willowbank ready to rock after big motorsport weekend

WHAT a great roll up to the Nostalgia drags and the Drift Grand Prix last weekend.

The motorsport precinct was buzzing with all the activity.

It was a hard fought battle in the Drift Grand Prix with Rob Whyte, Beau Yates and Brendon Greaves on the podium in that respective order.

Queensland Raceway also hosted an officials Expo.

I had a few mates get a long to see what it was all about.

Motorsport officials get the best seat in the house and help keep the participants safe.

The Expo went through the different rolls available and how they impact on participants and other marshals.

At the end of the day a car was sent on fire and everyone that attended got the opportunity to use a fire extinguisher to put it out.

While it sad to see a Chrysler Neon with flames bellowing out of it, it's comfortable to know that everyone was able to use the extinguisher as trained and put the fire out.

Willowbank Raceway is set to be a bit different next weekend.

CMC Rocks will take over the quarter mile track and feature some of Australia's best country music singers.

The preparations are well underway so there is no drag track activity this weekend.

Tomorrow night at Queensland Raceway is the popular Friday Night Drifts.

It's not long until the Drift Matsuri so I imagine a few drivers will be along to get some practice.

Saturday will be a big day for Rotary enthusiast.

The Rotary Revival #2 hits the track with a bigger and better line up of track activities.

The last revival attracted over 100 rotaries and this time there will be cruise, hot lap, roll race, show and shine and burnout competition.

To have that many rotaries in one place would have to be an Australian record. It sure will be a cool day with RX3 to RX8's.

I will be keeping an eye on Ipswich racer Ash Walsh, who competes in the Carrera Cup championship in Adelaide at the Clipsal 500 this weekend. He will be in the Bob Jane T-marts 997 prepared by Sonic Racing.

This is a great opportunity for Ash after missing out on the Erebus deal this year.

Good luck Ash. All of Ipswich is behind you.
