Willowbank drag meet washed out

WET weather brought any early finish to the FUCH's Winternationals drag meet on Monday.

Willowbank Raceway officials called off the event at midday, with manager Steve Bettes saying the decision was a difficult one to make.

He said the drag strip had witnessed three great days of action in the largest championship drag racing event held outside the United States.

"We have had three fantastic days of racing here at Willowbank Raceway, with some thrilling performances by the racers across all brackets," he said.

The highlights of this year's event included the quickest pass for a new national Top Doorslammer ET record by John Zappia.

The fastest speed in Pro Stock Motorcycle was recorded for a new national record by Aussie-born US resident Rhett Lougheed, a world's best performance for a rotary vehicle in Factory Xtreme.

Mr Bettes praised the support of the fans throughout the event.
