Junior league sign-on today

IT IS time to dust off the footy boots and recharge your team spirit for today’s junior rugby league annual sign-on day.

West End Junior Rugby League Club will hold its sign-on at the home ground at Daniels Park, 193 Chermside Road, Basin Pocket.

The club is ready to celebrate the new season after about a metre of water went through the clubhouse three weeks ago.

Club secretary Tamara Levao said a few club families were affected as well.

“We didn’t fare as badly as most and we’ve had plenty of help with the clean-up,” Ms Levao said.

“We are actually holding two sign-on times this weekend, with the next one tomorrow afternoon.”

Ms Levao encouraged girls to come along to try out for the under 16s and said if there was enough interest the club would also have a girls’ under 14 team.

Club president John Ward said West End aimed to give every child a go, regardless of their ability.

“We are a small inner city club in the process of looking at ways to rebuild our junior numbers,” Mr Ward said.

Sign-on kicks off today between 9am and midday and tomorrow from 1pm until 4pm.
