We’re all to blame, says young Lion Daniel McStay

TEENAGE Brisbane Lions forward Daniel McStay says no player should be free from criticism following the team's 72-point mauling by the Western Bulldogs.

Coach Justin Leppitsch singled out his senior stars for a tongue-lashing after the 22.14 (146) 11.8 (74) defeat at Etihad Stadium but McStay, 19, said everyone had to take responsibility ahead of the clash with Adelaide at the Gabba this Saturday afternoon.

"The whole team is letting us down at the moment, we just can't blame the leaders," said McStay, who kicked three goals in the loss.

"It's the young guys as well. We have to step it up.

"We haven't had that consistency of our leaders playing, with Rocky (Tom Rockliff) being out for periods of time and only just getting Pearce (Hanley) back.

"These guys are worrying about getting their game back on track. It's just going to take time.

"As soon as we get that leadership group back together it'll bring the heart back to that midfield and we'll start winning the ball back and as a team we'll start playing better."

Meanwhile, Carlton midfielder Bryce Gibbs has decided not to contest his rough conduct charge for his driving tackle on Port Adelaide star Robbie Gray.

The reigning Blues best-and-fairest winner was handed a three-game ban, reduced to two matches with an early guilty plea.

Hawthorn defenders Ben Stratton and Josh Gibson can accept $1000 fines for striking Adelaide small forwards Eddie Betts and Charlie Cameron during the game last Thursday night.
