'We live at Ipswich, not Woop Woop'

MOBILE reception in Walloon and Thagoona is poor and Cr David Pahlke is calling for something to be done about it.

Cr Pahlke is also asking residents in the area to contact him with their own opinions about reception. He has had many complaints and experiences major problems himself with reception even though he is with Telstra.

"I use Telstra because I am a traditionalist, but Telstra is particularly bad through the heart of Walloon. At the roundabout it drops out time after time," he said.

"I have got friends at Thagoona, but I can't ring them on the mobile. I have to ask why. They put a brand-new Telstra tower at Rosewood Golf Club that was supposed to solve the Thagoona problems, but it hasn't. We have got a tower in Rosewood, one at Thagoona and one at Mt Walker, but the reception is still woeful.

"They are all beating their chest about getting NBN down at Goodna, but out here we can't get decent mobile coverage.

"This is not a remote area out at Woop Woop. This is Ipswich."

Cr Pahlke had a Telstra representative out to Rosewood five months ago to discuss the problems, but has not seen any improvement since.

A Telstra spokesman said: "Our network team is currently considering the opportunities to extend coverage in the Walloon, Thagoona area.

"Telstra provides external mobile phone coverage in Walloon, however indoor coverage may be inconsistent in some areas.

"Customers can now use a Telstra mobile smart antenna to receive indoor coverage in the town if they have previously had difficulty, and we would recommend that they consider use of a Blue Tick handset.

"We conducted approximately 5000 network capacity upgrades in 2011/12. We are looking to do about the same again in 2012/13."
