Waugh jnr to feature in BBL curtain-raiser

CRICKET: The son of former Australian captain Steve Waugh will play in a Big Bash League curtain-raiser at the SCG next week.

Austin Waugh will feature alongside some of Australian cricket's emerging talent in a game before the Sydney Sixers play the Perth Scorchers on Tuesday.

The teenager showed his class at the Under-17 National Championships in October, top scoring for NSW Metro in the final with 122 off 136 balls.

He finished with 372 runs at an average of 74.4 for the entire tournament with only Queensland's Angus Lovell - who hit two centuries and three half-centuries at 80.17 - outscoring him.

In the BBL curtain-raiser, the country's best under-17 players will play together in the Ponting XII, and the cream of the under-19 talent joins forces in the Gilchrist XII.
