Watson to hit the flood for a six

AUSTRALIAN cricketer Shane Watson will lend his support to the flood relief fundraising efforts at Bunnings Warehouse Booval today.

Cr Andrew Antoniolli said instead of helping build the runs total for Australia, the bowler and opening batsman would help field donations in his home town for the recovery efforts.

“Shane grew up in Eastern Heights and, like so many people, has been devastated to see images of well-known Ipswich landmarks covered by floodwaters. He is coming home, where his parents and sister still live, to lend his support,” Cr Antoniolli said.

“There will be a sausage sizzle for a gold coin donation, and Shane will sign some autographs and maybe even have a little game of cricket with the children.”

Bunnings said it had increased its flood relief support to $1 million and these funds would assist communities with clean-up work as well as long term recovery and rebuilding efforts.
