After putting in a mammoth performance on Sunday, Andrew Fifita will be feeling disappointed not to make the cut for this years Australian squad.

Scoring the winning try for Cronulla on Sunday, the controversial prop was left out of contention after a string of off-field dramas this year.

The team announcement was also missing the likes of Cronulla captain Paul Gallen and Brisbane Broncos veteran Corey Parker.

Valentine Holmes and James Maloney were the only two premiership-winning players to be handed a call-up after Gerard Beale was named in the Kiwi squad.

Denied a representative swansong, Parker has played his last game of rugby league in the Broncos loss to North Queensland.

Fellow Brisbane forward Josh McGuire was also overlooked after a drop in his performance this year. Replaced by Canberra Raiders wrecking-ball Shannon Boyd, Mal has gone for a young forward pack for the future with the likes of Tyson Frizell, Trent Merrin, Josh Papalii and Aaron Woods.

The contest will pit the Melbourne Storm playmakers Cameron Smith and Cooper Cronk against their big forwards in Jesse Bromwich, Tohu Harris and Kevin Proctor who will join Adam Blair, Jason Taumalolo and Martin Taupau in a great match-up of the heavy hitters.
