Qld Treasurer calls on Canberra for "one-off $500 million"

QUEENSLAND has demanded the Federal Government give it a $500 million deal similar to the one reached with Western Australia after that state's complaints about its GST take.

State Treasurer Curtis Pitt called on Canberra on Friday to give the state a "one-off special $500 million deal" to help fund the state's infrastructure needs.

As PM Tony Abbott visited Cairns to announce funding under the government's northern Australia plan, Mr Curtis said the state also deserved more.

"All of the remaining funding of $800 million (in the Asset Recycling Initiative) must be invested in Queensland otherwise the Federal Government will be pulling out infrastructure funding from Queensland for not supporting asset sales," he said.

The Labor Government has repeatedly criticised the federal asset recycling scheme for being contingent on states selling assets.
