Walsh confident of Sonic effort with new race team

IPSWICH racer Ash Walsh will return to full-time competition this year, taking the prized seat in the #777 Sonic Motor Racing Services Porsche GT 3 Cup Car.

Walsh  will drive the 2015 championship winning car of Nick Foster this season.

With backing confirmed from Bob Jane T- Marts, Walsh also continues with long-time sponsor Infants' Friend.

After stepping up from the Dunlop Series to a full-time drive in the 2015 V8 Supercars Championship, Walsh and his management undertook a review of all options for 2016.

The chance to team up with Michael Ritter and the successful Sonic Team was too good to refuse.

"It has been a very good start to the year,'' Walsh said.

"It does take some adjustment to the driving style, particularly from a V8 Supercar. It is probably closer to my days in open wheelers.

"There is definitely a transition period but the information and guidance Sonic have given me so far is second to none.

"The car is fantastic to drive.

"Our goal with the tests has been to get really comfortable with the car and learn the way the team operates.

"Hopefully we can hit the ground running at Round 1 at the Clipsal 500.''

Walsh knows the Carrera Cup was full of talented guys with a great mix of young and regular Porsche drivers.

"You definitely can't write anyone off, and the test days have given us some good measures on the field and where we need to push on,'' he said.

"It is great to have Infants' Friend back with me this year, and to have such an iconic brand as Bob Jane T-Marts as our naming right sponsor is awesome.

"It will be a big year for the Sonic Team and I hope I can deliver another championship to Bob Jane T-Marts backing up Nick's (Foster) win last year."
