Vital home football game for Spirit

WESTERN Spirit are more intent on winning than thinking too much about possible promotion this season.

However, given the status of this year's Capital League 2 football competition, the Goodna-based club is still a chance of going up a division if they keep winning.

Tomorrow night's match against Oxley United at Kippen Park has special importance for that reason.

Fourth-placed Spirit tackles the joint competition leaders at 6pm.

Spirit are on 31 points, four behind third-placed Centenary, and only six adrift of Oxley United and Souths United.

While Spirit works to continue their steady progress, the Ipswich City Bulls face a different scenario at the other end of the table.

They are in second last and battling to avoid relegation.

The Bulls need to beat The Gap away tomorrow night to start building a buffer from the bottom two sides.

Meanwhile, the Ipswich Knights play tonight in their latest Brisbane Premier League match at the University of Queensland.

The Knights have plenty to play for to keep in touch with the top five. This weekend's senior, under-18 and under-16 teams can also strengthen the club's championship standings.

Western Pride's match against Palm Beach tomorrow night will be rescheduled due to an FFA Cup match.
