HOURS of scrubbing weren't enough to remove the vandalism painted across Michelle McRae's family van.

The mother of four is angry about being left with a clean-up bill after vandals spray painted words and symbols on her car while it was parked in the driveway of her Wilsonton home.

Mrs McRae said she was alerted to the damage by a Macfarlane St neighbour who caught the vandals in the act about 10pm last Tuesday.

"He was driving into his driveway just as they were spraying his work vehicle," Mrs McRae said.

"If they didn't get busted when they did, they probably would have done the whole street."

She said her neighbour chased the vandals down the street to an abandoned house, but was unable to catch them.

Paint was on most windows and panels of her car.

"I got out there and scrubbed the windows for a couple of hours," she said.

While the car is insured, Mrs McRae said she and her husband didn't need the cost of the excess added to their family budget.

"It is pretty frustrating."

Toowoomba police confirmed they were investigating the vandalism.
