Valentine’s Day ends in a bust
A VALENTINE'S Day outing was dampened somewhat when a 25-year-old man was caught driving with drugs in his system.
Kieran Kolega was driving with his girlfriend on Ipswich-Boonah Rd in Peak Crossing when he was stopped by police about 2.30pm for a random drug test.
The couple had gone out to celebrate Valentine's Day.
A saliva test showed Kolega had Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol - the chemical responsible for most of marijuana's psychological effects - in his system.
At Ipswich Magistrates Court this week, Kolega pleaded guilty to driving while drugs were in his system.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Brad Dick said Kolega told police he had smoked cannabis earlier that day.
Defence lawyer Cameron Hodges said Kolega was employed and had no previous convictions for drug-related offences.
He was fined $400 and disqualified from driving for three months.
