USQ excels at the Uni Games

"AMAZING, absolutely amazing" - that's how University of Southern Queensland (USQ) team captain Pete Harris described the week that was the Northern University Games in Toowoomba.

The USQ Biomedicine research student took a moment to reflect as the curtain closed on the five-day event hosted by USQ which attracted more than 1500 students from 12 universities across Queensland and Northern New South Wales.

"It has been an amazing week," Mr Harris said.

On finals day USQ had seven shots at gold.

"We also had more than 170 students competing, which is absolutely great ."

Mr Harris, competing in his seventh University Games, led the USQ men's volleyball team to victory in their bronze-medal match.

USQ's Tayla Zupp claimed gold in women's tennis and USQ finished with gold and silver in lawn bowls. In other medal finals, USQ won bronze in men's and women's basketball.

The 2015 Northern University Games was one of three regional Games held simultaneously across Australia, with a range of sports serving as the qualifying competition for the 2015 Australian University Games on the Gold Coast later this year.

USQ lost to Griffith 56-53 in the basketball semi-final. Griffith went on to win the gold in a one-sided final.
