UPDATE: Police investigating a traffic crash at Sandy Creek that claimed the lives of two children are appealing for public assistance.

The crash occurred on the Bruce Highway about a kilometre south of the Sandy Creek Bridge around 4.30pm and involved a truck, a silver car and a white utility.

The two children, aged under 10, died at the scene with a woman in her 40s being taken to Mackay Base Hospital in a critical but stable condition.

The three men in the utility, aged in their 40s, received non-life threatening injuries.

The truck driver, a man in his 50s, was not injured.

Investigators would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the crash or anyone who was travelling through the area before the crash and saw any of the three vehicles involved.

The highway re-opened only a few hours ago.

6.16pm:

TWO children have been killed in a horror crash on the Bruce Hwy before 5pm on Wednesday afternoon.

The crash occurred at Chelona near Sandy Creek between two vehicles.

A 40-year-old-male received a fractured ankle, a 40-year-old female received a fractured arm and a head injury but they're both in a stable condition.

Two adults in the other vehicle sustained minor injuries.

Emergency services are currently on scene.

Further down the road a truck has hit a power pole disrupting electricity to 278 Ergon Energy customers in the area.

The truck driver was uninjured.

5.28pm:

THE Bruce Hwy is closed at Chelona following a second crash on the strip of road between Mackay and Sarina this afternoon.

Details are yet to emerge, however initial reports say traffic is banked up in both directions.
