Turning the clock back half a century for Rosewood reunion

IT MAKES you wonder if one day will be enough to go through all the memories and what's happened to everyone since those days in the old school yard.

Fifty years after they grew up and learned together as young students, the Rosewood High Year 10 Class of 1965 is reuniting.

Half a century of life down the track, everyone has gone their own way and drawing them back together is bound to be a daunting prospect.

But that's the plan with organiser Jenny Stubbs trying to track down as many old classmates as possible for the reunion because nothing can replace those early relationships.

Janelle Franklin started the organising task but she now lives in Townsville so she enlisted the help of her old classmate Mrs Stubbs, who is still living in Rosewood.

"Janelle Franklin started the ball rolling, trying to contact past students from 1965 Year 10 Rosewood State High School but would like to include Year 8 from 1963," Mrs Stubbs said.

"This group were the last cohort to complete Year 8 in primary school in Queensland and not sit the scholarship examination.

"When they moved into Year 9, the Year 8 moved with them. Just like now, 50 years later, Year 7 has moved into high school with Year 8."

She said Rosewood High was a very young school in those days, was situated in the grounds of the current primary school and was known as Rosewood Secondary Department.

"The new school buildings were opened in 1964 when the Year 8 and 9 students moved in," she said. "Prior to that, from 1962-1963 students had to cross the railway line each day via the overhead bridge to attend high school classes at the old slipper factory while the new high school classrooms were being built.

"So after 50 years we hope to find as many old classmates as possible to meet at the Rosewood State School Hall on Saturday, November 7.

"If your sibling was in Year 8 in 1963 or Year 10 in 1965, please pass this information on to them."
