Trying to blame car crash with pole on mum costs driver dear
A MAN who tried to cut down his insurance excess after crashing his car by claiming his mother was driving has been fined.
Adrian Pozzebon, 21, pleaded guilty in Ipswich Magistrates Court to not having proper control of a vehicle, breaching a driving curfew and imposition.
Pozzebon, whose licence only allowed him to drive until 11pm, crashed his car into a pole in Blackstone after 11pm.
He lodged a complaint with his insurance agency, Just Car Insurance, telling them his mother was the driver, in order to pay a lower excess.
Pozzebon paid the insurance company a $400 excess and repeatedly told them his mother had been driving, despite him being the named driver.
He would have had to pay an extra $600 excess as a young driver had he said he was the driver. He eventually owned up and the agency told him they would not pay out his $26,850 policy. He was fined $600.
