Truckie caught with drug set up

A MAN caught with a hydroponic drug set up has faced court.

Police searched William Leonard Smart's home on Riverview Road on September 14 and found a hydroponic light, chemicals, a number of cannabis plants and bags.

Smart, 53, told police he had tried to grow a crow of cannabis last year but it had failed.

Next to the set up police located 5g of the substance.

Smart pleaded guilty to one count of possessing dangerous drugs and one count of possessing a thing used in commission of a crime.

Defence lawyer Clark Bushnell told the court Smart had some health problems and self-medicated with the cannabis.

Smart, a truck driver, was fined $1000 with no conviction recorded.
