Townsville project must be rejected
I AM sorry Townsville, but I just cannot see any justification for building a $380 million stadium complex in your city.
I have been to your stadium on a number of occasions and as far as I am concerned it ranks up with the best in any regional area.
At the moment the Cowboys are riding high at the top of the competition and crowds are strong.
It won't always be this way and for that reason a stadium that currently seats 20,000 is more than enough.
I support plans to cover more areas of the stadium, but the people of Queensland should not have to shell up such a huge amount of money for a stadium.
With $380 million we could build a new hospital and still have change left over for a few much needed medical centres in regional areas.
I love my sport, but the Townsville proposal is a colossal waste of money we cannot afford to support.
PM Malcolm Turnbull is standing firm that his government won't be dropping their money into the project and he should be applauded for that stance.
We have seen far too much money wasted on white elephants and that's exactly what a new 30,000 capacity stadium in Townsville will surely become.
