Tourism welcomes new committee
THE TOURISM industry has welcomed a new cabinet committee comprised of tourism-relevant portfolios to scrutinise potential developments in Queensland.
Speaking at a Queensland Tourism Industry Council breakfast on Thursday morning, Tourism Minister Jann Stuckey assured hundreds of operators the LNP was committed to reviving their struggling industry.
A tourism cabinet committee, comprised of state development, infrastructure and planning, education, training and employment, main roads and transport and national parks, recreation sport and racing ministers, has been established to consider the broad range of issues that impact on tourism.
The committee will also administer decision-making on tourism projects.
Ms Stuckey said there was a lot more to be done for the tourism industry.
"I do believe there is an abundance and confidence bubbling out there. It is now up to Government to deliver and up to the industry to keep bubbling away."
The Minister said developments would be scrutinised through the cabinet committee and go through the appropriate checks and balances.
Queensland Tourism Industry Council chief executive Daniel Gschwind said it was important to have the various issues - roads, transport, development - on the same page.
"We welcome the announcement of the cabinet committee that will bring key portfolios together that will have a direct impact on the future of tourism," he said.
"We have to have them on the same page and I cannot stress how absolutely critical that is."
