Tots the first graduates in rhyme time reading program

GRADUATION can often be a nerve wracking experience for students, however the graduates at Redbank Plains Creative Tots were nothing but confident when they walked up to accept their hard-earned certificates.

A group of tiny tots from the playgroup were the first to graduate from Ipswich Library's Baby Rhyme Time sessions, run as part of the First 5 Forever reading program.

Head of the playgroup Mikayla Cronin said the program helped kids of from birth to age five develop vital literacy and social skills.

"The library van comes around to the playgroup with books, toys and puppets to improve literacy in kids from birth to five years old," she said.

"The kids love it. The program gets them singing, reading books and is really interactive."

"The graduation was great. The kids got library bags with books and a certificate."

The First 5 Forever program was introduced in Ipswich in August this year and aims boost literacy rates among young children.
