Top End sparkles in ‘The Wet'

AUSTRALIA'S Top End has two seasons - the wet and the dry.

Typically the dry season has been the major tourist season.

However, the wet from November to March is without doubt the more spectacular season and, despite old beliefs, is a comfortable time to travel to the Top End.

In the wet season, the beauty of Nitmiluk Gorge really comes into its own, with its many waterfalls in full flow, the river high and flowing, and a lush rich green takes over the landscape.

The weather features impressive electrical storms, sun showers, and warm but not uncomfortably humid days.

When the rains come, so much more of the native wildlife becomes active. Rain brings the frogs and other reptiles which in turn bring the smaller birds.

Kangaroos and other mammals are more active, enjoying the lush greenery. The many rock pools have been flushed out and are crystal clear.

Even more of a drawcard is that during the wet season, Kakadu can be viewed in all its glory from the air.

With a Twin Parks flight from Katherine from just $399, travellers to the Top End in the wet get the best of both worlds.

They can explore the beauty of Nitmiluk Gorge in full flow, and also get to see the waterfalls and the magic of the wetlands of Kakadu from the air - the only way to take it all in.

No crowds, no waiting, no big tour groups, and the stunning scenery of the Top End in all its wet season glory.

For bookings and inquiries on tours and scenic flights, phone 1300 146 743 or visit Nitmiluk Tours.
