Councillor slams 'feral, bloodsucking' statue vandals

TOOWOOMBA parks and gardens spokeswoman Councillor Sue Englart has branded those responsible for the decapitation of a statue in Queens Park as "ferals" and "bloodsuckers".

"It just annoys me because it's a cost to the ratepayers and I think they're ferals," she said.

"They're bloodsuckers - sucking off society and costing us all.

"They give nothing and take everything."

The statue was decapitated and the basin broken off a bird bath at the entry to the Parterre Gardens off Lindsay St.

Cr Englart said it would cost $1000 to repair the statue.

"A lot of hard work and a lot of sweat goes in to this park and really it can't be undone by selfish people," she said.

"Another thing I'd like to point out is this is not an off-leash dog park."

Cr Englart did not rule out the possibility of surveillance cameras at the park.

"I think we need to do something," she said.

The whereabouts of the statue's head is unknown.

Anyone with information regarding the statue damage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
