Toni's dog provides fitting team name

MARK Leisemann could not help but chuckle when asked where the team name 'Walters' came from.

The first hint comes from the sausage dog adorning the team's jerseys - a new addition to the Ipswich Super 8's competition this year.

The second, comes with the understanding that competition organiser Toni Notley plays in Leisemann's team.

"We're named after Toni's dog - Walter the sausage dog,” Leisemann said.

"It's a bit of an odd name, but it's all a bit of fun. We even have Walter's image on the jerseys.”

The fresh jersey designs come courtesy of new and returning sponsors of the Super 8's competition.

Leisemann said those local business deserved praise for their continued support.

"We have eight men's and eight women's teams, and all are sponsored by local business,” he said. "That's pretty good for Ipswich sport I would suggest.

"It's not big money, but it makes the competition cost effective for players, and that is partly the reason so many have come to play.”
