Toll booths cash in

CASH toll booths on the Gateway and Logan motorways will close permanently from today.

Motorists will need to embrace the State Government's “go via” payment option.

Queensland Motorways has issued about 155,000 go via tags.

Main Roads Minister Craig Wallace said motorists had signed up for about 44,000 go via tags, as well as several thousand go via video passes, since free-flow tolling began on July 1.

As of July 22, 130 toll collectors will be out of work.

“Queensland Motorways and the government are extremely proud of the wonderful job the toll collectors have done during the past 23 years,” Mr Wallace said.

“I have no doubt that the toll collectors will be fondly remembered.”
