Toddler dead after being left in car

A THREE-year-old girl is dead after she was pulled from a car and suffered cardiac arrest in Sydney's northwest.

Emergency services were called to Cameo Crt, Glenwood about 5pm, Saturday, after receiving reports the girl was inside a car parked outside a home.

Police say family were performing CPR inside the home when they arrived.

A NSW Ambulance spokeswoman said the girl was in cardiac arrest by the time paramedics got there.

The child was taken to the Children's Hospital at Westmead in a critical condition but later died, police say.

It is understood the child's aunt and grandmother had joined her mother at the home to prepare for Christmas when they became confused about who was supposed to be looking after her.

Police will investigate whether the aunt and grandmother believed someone else was watching her during the time she was unaccounted for.

They will also look into whether the child was left in the car or made her own way in.

Her grandmother, a registered nurse, began CPR immediately with the help of the girl's mother until paramedics.

"I saw someone carry a child out ... It's so sad at any time of year but at Christmas it's so awful," one neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said
