Two-year-old critical but stable after being run over by car

UPDATE, 10PM: A two-year-old boy struck by a car after he ran on to the road at Augustine Heights remained in a critical condition on Tuesday.

The toddler was left fighting for his life after the incident on Monday evening on Isidore St at Augustine Heights.

Police said the two-year-old boy was rushed to the Mater Hospital in Brisbane with "life-endangering injuries" including head injuries.

On Tuesday, a Mater spokeswoman said the boy was in a critical but stable condition.

Police reported a car was travelling on Isidore St about 5.10pm Monday when the boy ran on the road and was struck.

The spokesman said alcohol and speed had been ruled out as contributing factors.

"It was just one of those things," he said.

The boy was rushed to the Mater in a critical condition.

"We're very concerned about him," the spokesman said.

The police Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the events leading up to the incident.
