Alleged car thief called 000 to ask cops to stop chase

A MAN who allegedly led police on a lengthy stolen car chase also twice rang Triple-0 to request that police stop following him.

The pursuit kicked off just after midnight yesterday after police patrolling Evans Rd, Salisbury noticed a stolen vehicle.

Police said crews followed the vehicle as it travelled towards Ipswich. A tyre deflation device was deployed at Brisbane Road, Booval and a man was taken into custody a short time later.

In a strange twist, police communications twice took calls from a person, believed to be the suspect, who had called triple-0 to ask that police crews stop following him.

It will be alleged the sedan was stolen from Carina earlier in the night.

An 18-year-old Acacia Ridge man was charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle, unlawful use of motor vehicle, unlicensed driving and fail to stop motor vehicle.

He will appear at the Brisbane Magistrates Court on May 21.
