The yummy mummy
ONCE again necessity has quite literally become the mother of invention.
It was after Tess Kilgariff became a mother she realised there was a market for home-cooked meals to be delivered to new mums.
"When you have a new baby there is not a lot of time to cook and you want to know that you are nourishing you're new baby properly," she said.
So she established her company Stork To Your Fork, a unique service that delivers high protein meals especially designed for the new mother.
"I make all the food from scratch using all my own stocks, a lot of whole grains and lots of things for post-labour mothers to repair their bodies."
The initial idea for her business came about when Ms Kilgariff was on maternity leave from work with plenty of time on her hands but not much money.
"Many of my friends also had babies at the same time so I went around to their places and filled their freezers with meals," she said.
"And hands down they all said it was the best present they ever received.
"I then went back to my job and was made redundant and it hit me like a lightning bolt.
"It was like fate telling me this was the perfect time to set up Stork To Your Fork."
She had always been a talented cook and completed a Commercial Cookery course and other short courses focusing on nutrition.
"I did a short course with the Australian Institute of Nutrition and Australian College of Natural Medicines about maternal health and nutrition."
She also did a considerable amount of research to ensure her food retained its nutrition and appeal through the cooking, freezing and thawing process.
Customers throughout the region can go online to the Stork to Your Fork website to order the food. Ms Kilgariff is able to cater to any dietary needs or food likes and dislikes.
