The day Tegan became an Ipswich queen

THE rise of exciting jockey Tegan Harrison gained momentum when the apprentice won last year's $175,000 Ipswich Cup on Brave Ali.

Harrison teamed with in-form trainer Tony Gollan for the 2150m main race to enjoy the party atmosphere at the Ipswich Turf Club.

"He doesn't really have that explosive turn of foot so you have to get them off the bit but at the same time you have to hold him together early,'' she said, explaining her race tactics.

Gollan also savoured victory in the $175,000 Eye Liner Stakes when leading jockey Jim Byrne guided Alma's Fury home over the 1350m journey.

"That was amazing. We're having a fantastic winter carnival,'' Gollan said after the Cup.

"It's a big thrill. Growing up in Toowoomba, these sorts of races are the races you really want to win.''

Byrne also had a terrific Cup day last year, winning the Gai Waterhouse Classic (1350m) on Jazz Song before his Eye Liner victory.

Who will be today's star jockeys?
