Thanks to everyone who played a part in successful season

EVEN though the hot weather hasn't left us yet, we have officially said goodbye to summer.

Well done to all those who participated, volunteered, coached or supported someone playing in a summer sport.

If you are wanting a last taste of summer there are still cricket finals happening at Ivor Marsden over the next few weekends.

Jets blasting off

ROUND 1 of the Intrust Super Cup kicks off on Saturday with defending premiers, the Ipswich Jets, hosting Norths Devils.

This weekend is also the start of the NAB Defence Force Appreciation Week, which promotes the relationships between the Defence Force and the Ipswich Jets.

Defence personnel receive free entry to Jets games on March 5 and 13 at the North Ipswich Reserve.

The week-long celebration will culminate with a replay of the 2015 grand final, seeing the Ipswich Jets take on the Townsville Blackhawks. The game is on Sunday, March 13.

The NAB Defence Force Appreciation Day will have jumping castles, past and present military vehicles, light horse troops, a military active cannon, RAAF puppies, cadets and more.

Sun shade grant

CANCER Council Queensland and the Queensland Department of Health are supporting the 2016 SunSmart Shade Creation initiative.

The initiative provides up to 50% matched funding to purchase portable or permanent shade structures. Funding varies depending on shade type.

All eligible not-for-profit organisations that cater to children 0-18 years (e.g. schools, sporting clubs, childcare centres and community groups) are encouraged to apply.

Applications are open and close at 5pm on March 18. More information at: cancerqld.org.au
