Thai PM visits Canberra

PRIME Minister Julia Gillard played host to her Thai counterpart Yingluck Shinawatra in Canberra on Monday.

Ms Shinawatra was officially welcomed in the Forecourt of Parliament House with a ceremony that included a 19-gun salute.

The leaders discussed a range of issues, including the enhancement of trade and investment ties, efforts to increase tourism between the countries, education, food safety and co-operation on disaster management, energy and security issues.

Ms Yingluck's visit marked the 60th anniversary of bilateral relations between Australia and Thailand.

Their meeting was followed by a joint meeting of Australian and Thai cabinet ministers.
