Terry Ryan steps up into new role as Qld's coroner

TERRY Ryan has been appointed Queensland's new coroner.

Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie said Mr Ryan, who has held senior positions in the Justice Department, was approved for the position by the Executive Council on Thursday.

"Terry Ryan will bring to the Coroners Court compassion, integrity and a wealth of experience," he said.

"The Coroner's job of investigating reportable deaths in Queensland is an important part of our legal system and I congratulate Mr Ryan on his appointment, which begins tomorrow."

State Coroner Michael Barnes officially finished his time in the position last week.
